As we continue to grow, we are seeking a Product Design Engineer to support the design and production of ARC’s fabricated action sports equipment, with a primary focus on our PBR product line.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a practical, hands-on engineer who enjoys 3D modeling and understands how designs become real fabricated products. 

This position will use Creo Parametric and AutoCAD to prepare customer orders for manufacturing, including creating and modifying 3D models, assemblies, production drawings, bills of materials, and related engineering documentation.  The Product Design Engineer will work closely with production, project management, sales, purchasing, and other engineering team members to move projects accurately and efficiently from order information to the shop floor.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working at a computer but will also enjoy spending time in a fabrication environment—reviewing builds, solving manufacturing problems, inspecting prototypes, and improving designs based on real shop-floor feedback.

We particularly value candidates who demonstrate hands-on mechanical aptitude. This may come from professional fabrication experience or personal interests such as welding, automotive work, woodworking, construction, machining, equipment repair, or other mechanical projects.

Responsibilities

• Create and modify 3D parts, assemblies, and production drawings using Creo Parametric.
• Create and revise 2D parts and drawings using AutoCAD.
• Review project and order information to determine engineering requirements.
• Configure existing products and adapt standard designs to meet project-specific needs.
• Develop custom components and assemblies when standard products do not meet project requirements.
• Create accurate manufacturing drawings for laser-cut, formed, welded, machined, and assembled components.
• Generate and maintain bills of materials and other documentation needed to release orders to production.
• Assign and manage part numbers, product information, materials, finishes, and manufacturing requirements.
• Manage CAD models and drawings within Windchill.
• Apply practical engineering judgment when evaluating materials, structural members, welds, fasteners, anchors, and product connections.
• Work directly with fabrication personnel to resolve questions and production issues.
• Review prototypes and first builds to identify design and manufacturing improvements.
• Support design-for-manufacturability and design-for-assembly initiatives.
• Update existing products to improve quality, cost, manufacturability, installation, and long-term performance.
• Coordinate with engineering, production, purchasing, sales, and project management to help ensure orders are completed correctly and on time.
• Maintain accurate, organized, and revision-controlled engineering documentation.
• Perform other product design and engineering duties as needed.

Qualifications

Required

• Strong mechanical aptitude and an interest in understanding how products are fabricated and assembled.
• Experience creating accurate 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings using parametric CAD software.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and bills of materials.
• Working knowledge of common manufacturing materials, fasteners, and fabrication methods.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
• Willingness to work closely with fabrication personnel and regularly spend time on the shop floor.
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with engineering and production teams.

Preferred

• Experience with Creo Parametric. Candidates with strong experience in SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or similar parametric 3D CAD software may also be considered.
• Experience with AutoCAD or other 2D CAD software.
• Experience with Windchill or another product lifecycle management system.
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, industrial engineering, product design, or a related field. Equivalent CAD, manufacturing, and fabrication experience may be considered.
• Two or more years of experience in product design, mechanical design, manufacturing engineering, or a related position.
• Experience designing sheet-metal parts and components for press-brake forming.
• Familiarity with structural steel, tubing, welded assemblies, and MIG welding.
• Experience preparing parts for CNC laser cutting, including DXF creation and design considerations.
• Understanding of design for manufacturability and assembly.
• Familiarity with lumber, carpentry, fasteners, anchors, concrete foundations, powder coating, galvanizing, and other industrial finishes.
• Hands-on experience with welding, automotive work, woodworking, machining, construction, equipment repair, or similar mechanical activities.
• Experience supporting custom or low-volume fabricated products in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Schedule and Location

• Full-time, on-site position in Joplin, Missouri.
• Typical working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
• Occasional travel may be required but is expected to be limited.
• This position reports to the Director of Engineering.
